Housekeeping

General guidance for joining a VSR session

Primarily, this is a relaxed and safe virtual space for you to join in as much as you want.

Our general housekeeping ensures a welcoming space for everyone joining. Hosts may remind attendees at the start of a session, especially when we have first time attendees.

We always start with introductions - your name, where you are in the world and what projects you are working on during that session. When you have shared, please nominate someone else or pass back to the host.

This is a really friendly and supportive space. If you are stuck, want advice or have any questions you want to bounce off anyone, you are welcome to ask after the introductions. You can mention you have a question in your introduction and we’ll come back to you once we’ve all said hello.

You can turn your camera and microphone on/off as it suits you during the session. If you do not want your camera on, that is perfectly fine.
Newbies are very welcome to take a backseat and listen in to get a feel for the session.

Do put yourself on mute if you are using your machine or chatting to someone else in your household. You may be put on mute if your machine or other background noise is distracting.

You may be ‘spotlighted’ when sharing fabric or a pattern. This is to make it easier for people to see what you are sharing with the group. Where possible we will try to ask before spotlighting someone. If you do not want to be spotlight, please let the host know.

Do feel free to use the chat typing function if you want to introduce yourself there. You can use it to share your instagram handle in the chat or any links for patterns and shops we chat about. We keep an eye on the chat during the session as best as we can.

Please be respectful of other attendees, their projects and your language. Whilst swearing can be inevitable sometimes when sewing, there may be children out of sight of cameras and other attendees may not appreciate language.

You don’t have to stay the whole session if you are tired or have other people/pets in the house you need to take care of. You can use the space as you feel necessary. Do not worry if you aren’t there at the start of the session or need to head off early. We appreciate your company for as long as we have it.

People may join or leave at different times, so give them a wave. If we are in full chat mode, do make use of the chat function to say hello or goodbye.

If you are moving rooms with your device, please turn your camera off or cover it up. This has been a request from another attendee for accessibility purposes.

If it gets busy - we launch break out rooms. We will split roughly 50/50. Please bare with us whilst we sort the technical side of this out.
