Secret Pyjamas
I asked for favourite secret pyjama patterns. These are garments which look casual enough to pop to the shops or confidently open the front door, but secretly, snug enough to nap or lounge around the house. And there were a lot of suggestions, including many jumpsuits. I think the 2020 pandemic and more people working from home saw many patterns coming into their own!
In no particular order…
1 Safiya Trousers, Jumpsuit and Playsuit by Tilly and the Button
Wide-legged with elastic waistband ideal for lightweight fabrics. Easy to dress up, or down. Whilst the trousers were the suggested pattern, no reason the jumpsuit and playsuit can also provide the comfort you need on a lazy day at home.
2 Avenir Jumpsuit by Friday Pattern co
The first of many jumpsuits, and definitely a popular pattern in the VSR sessions.
3 Spring in London slouch top by Seasons of East
A new-to-me pattern which can easily be dressed up or down.
4 Loungewear Set by Peppermint Magazine
Ideal sofa to bed set, with pockets included.
5 Kielo Wrap Dress & Jumpsuit by Named Patterns
One of our more formal patterns, but many sewists find comfortable to wear around the house.
6 Sirocco Jumpsuit Deer and Doe, now owned by Closet Core
Another smart-looking pattern with sleeves and v-neck. Being a knit pattern means it is a super comfortable make whilst looking smart for your next video call.
7 Saguaro set by Friday Pattern co
Another elasticated waist pattern with wide legs, the top has a very casual feel, with a v-neck for a smarter look.
8 Bob Pants by Style Arc
Elasticated waist - tick. Pockets - tick!
9 Sonata Set by Yoannas studio
Newly released pattern, hostess Dee models the floaty dress/top which comes with patch pockets AND shorts pattern.
10 Free Range slacks by Sewhouse7
One of the most popular trouser patterns in the sewing world, and with elasticated waist, pockets and tapered leg, perfect for a casual and comfortable trouser.
11 Nova Jumpsuit by True Bias
Knit jumpsuit with pockets, yes please! A more casual look to Sirocco, but easy to dress up. This sleeveless pattern is ideal for warmer environments.
12 Zadie Jumpsuit by Paper Theory
Another popular pattern in the sewing world, and apparently* one of the comfiest patterns too! Woven and wide-legged pattern which rivals the popularity of the knit Sirocco (IMO).
*Not made it myself…yet.
13 Chanterelle Pants by Sew Liberated
A very popular pattern, and guess why - elasticated waist, wide legs and pockets!
13 Shoreline shirt by Pattern Emporium
New-to-me pattern which perfectly ticks the boxes for a secret pj top. Shirt for looking smart enough but oversized/baggy for the comfort. Perfect (to me!)
