Scrapbusting Summary

What a session we had on Sunday 18th!

I think we peaked at 23 people in the session and we had SO much inspiration from what people were making.

Amongst the chat about what we were making, there were endless suggestions about other projects you could make.

So here we go, a summary of patterns to inspire you.

Being made during the session

Angelika was using up leftover thread on spools for her makes to empty a few spools and bobbins! Great thinking.

We spoke about using threads for small pieces for stuffing things like toys and dog beds.

Above, clockwise from top left:
Amy’s quilt for her dog, Anna’s seat belt covers, Helen’s pattern weights, Jimena’s necklaces, Shelley’s key fobs, Kristal’s rash guard, Marja’s pouch and Jimena’s new machine’s stitches (which could be made into a booklet).

Other makes mentioned and suggested makes

Jimena’s Scrapbusting ideas!

Look at these lovely handmade necklaces using scrap fabric. The Hexagons are 6mm, however Jimena did make a 4mm version(and doesn't recommend it!)

She also made the dragonfly necklace, which is incredibly inspiring!

The fabric backdrop was sewn into an iPad cover.

Free Pants Patterns!

We love a good pants scrapbusting project, and we mentioned a few too…

Sewing for Charity

There are a number of charities where you can make things to benefit others. Many of these projects can involve using up scraps of all sizes.

We’ve mentioned Sanitary Pads for charities before. We know there are a number of charities taking in dresses for girls, and there is a #ProjectDressAGirl2024, [supported by many Vloggers] and ClearVision want volunteers to make tactile books for the visually impaired.

We’ll be having a charity specific sewalong soon!

Eleanor shared this tactile piece she made for a local residential home, specially for those with Alzheimer's.

An excellent way to use fabrics and the random bits of haberdashery you might have.

From buttons, shower loafer, hair toggle, buckles, zips, beads, ribbons, ricrac, fluff and pouches with plastic sewn in for tactile function.

Session Chat

We had conservations about all sorts. However, what is mentioned in Virtual Sewing Room, stays in the Virtual Sewing Room.  Mostly because some of us had a vent about neighbours and being able to hear them! Dogs, quilting, TV shows alongside some usual sewing chatter.

We discussed Bias binding - Donna asked do you learn to love it, or just deal with it? Instagram poll was very split… 54% love, 46% learn to deal with it.

The greatest laugh we had all session…

This is a picture of a game changing gadget -finger chopsticks. Maries recently purchased, influenced from a previous session by Jimena, so she can knit and eat without getting crumbs on her project.

Finally, excellent quotes from the session

  • “There are not many people I’d specifically tell which pants I am wearing today.”

  • “It is not easy to take a photo of your own bottom.”
